A Letter from the Old World Christmas Family!
During the Christmas season, our family welcomes guests to our home to relax, warm themselves next to a crackling fire, sip on a hot cup of cider and enjoy good company. As our guest to this Web site, we hope you will feel the same sense of welcome. We want to share our love of Christmas and our enthusiasm for the Merck Family's Old World Christmas collection of exquisite holiday treasures. Merck Family's Old World Christmas was founded to celebrate the beauty and magic of Christmas. It is our hope that we can make this wondrous holiday more festive than ever by offering ornaments and collectibles that are sure to delight the child in all of us and by delivering these treasures with a devotion in service that exceeds the expectations of our customers.
Tim and Beth Merck
The Merck family name has become synonymous with Christmas throughout North America. Merck Family's Old World Christmas was founded in 1979 by Tim and Beth Merck, a couple who share a special love for Christmas, especially its rich traditions in the European style. Today, the Merck Family's Old World Christmas is one of the leading distributors of quality glass ornaments in the United States. For Tim and Beth, it's a winter wonderland all year as they manage and direct the activities of a thriving company. Beth designs numerous ornaments, nutcrackers, Santa Lights, and more, all from their home in Spokane, Washington. Tim manages and coordinates the activities of the Merck Family's Old World Christmas. The Merck family and their home were featured in Victoria magazine in December of 1996.
Each glass ornament produced for the Merck Family's Old World Christmas is hand crafted in age-old traditions. Molten glass is mouth-blown into finely created molds, which are available only to the Merck Family's Old World Christmas, before being hand-painted and finished. Each Merck Family's Old World Christmas ornament is authentically created with the same techniques originated in the 1800s.
All of the Old World Christsmas wooden nutcrackers and smoking men are masterfully created in the mountains of eastern Germany. The craftspeople select the finest, clear-grained hardwoods available before carving, sanding, painting and finishing the figures. The charming details that have made these German characters popular for so many generations are preserved in our entire collection. Representing new hope for mankind and bringing cheer to wintry days, illumination has always been a part of the Christmas celebration.
The early 1900s gave birth to a growing fascination with the new electrical lights that began to gleam on Christmas trees. Merck Family's Old World Christmas is proud to recapture those traditional designs in our Light Covers and Santa Light. The warm glow of the highly collectible Santa Lights beautifully illuminates any Christmas celebration. Light Covers bring jolly new personality to strings of miniature lights in garlands, wreaths, and trees.
Old World Christmas says:
We promise to provide high-quality, traditionally designed, hand crafted collectibles that are created with even more attention to detail than those produced 100 years ago. We are committed to excellent customer service, and our fast, efficient shipping is second-to-none. In a time when profit and mass-marketing are given a higher priority than superior products and service, we choose to be different. We are determined that our customer service will always have a personal touch. At Merck Family's Old World Christmas, we continually seek to restore the charm of Christmases past, heighten the joy of the year's Yuletide season, and make these same cherished values available for the enjoyment of all families in the years to come.
